“gaaahhhhhh I couldn't handle this one. And I love the Russians! Have you read Heart of a Dog? I like that Bulgakov much better. It's tight and succinct and I understand the references... M&M lost me almost immediately. So much esoterica. There is some great imagery produced out of Behemoth though. Gotta love a badass cat with a gun and a mushroom. check it: http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lbwief792n1qef7lto1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YYQ4W5Q3HQMG2&Expires=1289868750&Signature=VX9GwH09qXKSbeNIR8I87Pnzies%3D”

“hah, that's a great picture! behemoth was always my favorite character. i have read 'heart of a dog', and really liked it. the parts from sharik's point of view are exactly what i always suspected dogs think like. iactually just finished 'the fatal eggs', another science-gone-wrong kind of story. a little gruesome, but that's one of the things that make it so good. Another Behemoth pic: http://beiderbecke.typepad.com/tba/2006/06/international_c.html”

“Read this during a summer in Moscow long ago. It's wild: fans have preserved the "devil's apartment" and turned it into a kind of shrine. I remember lots of candle wax and writing all over the walls.”

“Nice list of books! I loved this one too; read it on a park bench at the Patriarch's Ponds in Moscow. Great stuff!”

“If you are really "waiting for the movie," then check out the tv series of this book. It's 17 hours of total madness and fun. Made in Russia; true to the word of Bulgakov.”

“What is it about a backward, authoritarian country like Russia that lets it produce the most transcendent novels ever?”
