“When I taught intro Bible for a living, I can't tell you how many students were in deep shock that what they'd been taught at church or synagogue was not the only or the most satisfactory way to view the texts. My Muslim students did not question what they'd been taught about Quran, as literalism is almost entirely unquestioned in that milieu, except by a very few and very scared scholars. I'll get this book eventually from the TPLibrary, sounds like fun. Thanks for telling us about it.”

There are also a large number of non-believers who have very limited knowledge, as well. In general, spiritual literacy is low. But, speaking as a Christian, I believe that's because there's an deeper, unconscious unwillingness to understand ideas that threaten the ego. Denial--it's not just a river in Egypt, as they say ....”
