“Try "Holidays On Ice," if you haven't already. The first story in particular - the elf job at Macy's - is painfully funny. I discovered Sedaris by accident, and went to the library to find his other books. Some of his stuff was disappointing, I thought, uneven in quality, but when he's good there's no one funnier. I suppose we can't expect perfection from everything. Enjoying what's good and suffering or ignoring the rest applies to just about everything, including literature. Greene's "The Quiet American" is the best novel ever written, even though it's a murder mystery, but he also wrote some awful nonsense. I like the early Stephen King, too, but he needs a new editor or agent, someone who will say, "Steve, my man, come on... you've got enough money... are we really going to publish this pile of..."”
