“Visiting New Orleans shold be pre- or post-requisite for reading this book. How could someone with this humor in them have possibly contemplated suicide? Though, if you consider Mark Twain, his folksy humor certainly seemed to be direct contrast to his otherwise plainly stated despair and disappointment with the United States and americans. I think if this was the case, I think it was because of the humanistic potential he knew existed in the US.”

“Excellent book. I know there's a biography of Toole out there that I've been meaning to check out but haven't. Have you by chance read it?”
