“Go Down, Moses is quite beautiful too, at times. For the sake of illustration: let us suggest that Faulkner examines (among other things) the human subject on an profoundly illuminating level in The Sound and the Fury. Something akin to Kant or Sartre or Heidegger: that deep. He plunges to these depths with respect to: racial identity; mankind's relationship with(in) nature; male/female dynamics; technological progress and its effect on society; identity and the conditions which make meaning possible in the post-Civil War South. Great stuff.”
