“Aaaaand, I just realized that the Tenenbaums were loosely based on the Glass family and that I had just read that somewhere. Not an original opinion at all. I feel like kind of an asshole, sorry!”

“This brought back memories as it was a required read in a college course that I took while attending Salem College majoring in communications. I just remember that I liked the book and Salinger's style....complicated people, but we are, aren't we?? No matter how many people tell me they are not complicated, the more they say they are not, they are.... :) A very good read.”

“That's an interesting point, I had a similar reaction in that I like how it's a critique of that sort of entitlement, except I still love that they are Special Beautiful (and kind of awful) People. They're like a literary Royal Tenenbaums. Maybe you're right though, and you have to be a certain age to connect with it, god knows I don't feel the same way about Catcher in the Rye as I did at sixteen. Maybe that's a Salinger thing?”
