“My ex-boyfriend and I lived this kind of life last winter. As an Orange County diva, I didn't think I would last the first night in Fairbanks: living in the cellar of the house he was building, no running water, no electricity, no 'fridge (of course), no shower! I'm back in California, since I'm no Thoreau either. I didn't hear about this book, Into the Wild, until I was in Kuwait a month ago, teaching kids. Funny to be reading about my old stomping grounds of Alaska while dying of the heat in Kuwait.”
