“My favorite scene comes from "The Ill-Made-Knight". Lancelot and Guinevere are sitting in a solar, reminiscing about their younger days. Arthur, much older than the already aged pair, comes in on them, unnoticed, and, realizing the effort they've put into keeping this secret, and loving them BOTH too much to reveal he knows, he goes back out again to find a page to announce him. This level of kindness and love from an absolute monarch is, for me, a defining moment of Arthur's character, and the major reason why White's Arthur maintains his position for me as a bastion of what it means to be a good leader for me.
Incidentally, have you read the "Book of Merlyn"? It was originally supposed to be the final part of this book, but White couldn't get it published with the rest due to wartime paper shortages. I actually read that one first, before this.”
