The Island of the Colorblind
by Oliver Sacks
“This title grabbed me for 2 reasons - from a metaphorical point of view, and from the stance of 'normal' being an alternate reality.
Sacks recounts his travels to various islands where a portion of each populace is colorblind. His descriptions of the cultures and natural surroundings are dazzling. A favorite scene for me is one in which he describes a boy running joyful through a jungle with new tinted lenses through the bright glare of the afternoon (a simple act previously denied him - due to his eyes' sensitivity to the sun).”
