“This book made me think a lot about how we choose what is important enough to be worth devoting our lives to. I know I just ended a sentence with a preposition, which would give Avril Incandenza the howling fantods. Infinite Jest reminded me of what it was like to be a fanatically devoted adolescent athlete, the neuroses involved in it, the opponent as an excuse to engage the self, the practice of using athletics to train children to become good citizens. It made me think a lot about all the different ways people have devised to combat loneliness, and the consequences.”
