The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer...

by Neal Stephenson

I want a copy of the Young Lady's Illustrated Primer. And not one of the Chinese knock-offs.

I love the worlds Stephenson creates in this and Snow Crash better than just about any other imaginary places. Shame he sucks at writing endings so much. Do you know my ex could've gotten me his autograph but didn't? I think I shall have to chide him about that again...

“You mean like Princess Nell rescuing her foster mother from certain death and then swimming with her all female army to a new world and life as royalty?”

“I like his world-building best, and I really like the characters, and it seems like big important things are happening... and then something kind of lame or anticlimactic or weird but not in a cool way ends up being the closing scene. Like, okay, the dissolving druggies under the sea? Everything was seriously building to that? Seemed like something as awesome as the rest of the book coulda happened instead.”

“Chide that ex! I got my Snow Crash and Quicksilver autographed. Neal was even gracious enough to let me buy him a beer. What do you think was wrong with any of his endings?”
