46-year-old man in Portland, OR, United States
Seeking a woman, 26 to 45
I would describe myself as...

Who am I? I'm busy. I'm probably doing too many things in too many places in pursuit of too many goals to ever be as "efficient" as I possibly could be. I've had a very busy life, including enough improbable adventures that when I was once hospital-bound by a near-lethal fever I had the doctor do a web search on me to prevent suspicions that I might be delusional. Once they'd done the search they agreed that without it they would have done just that. Am I rich? No. Am I famous? No. But I've got my points to be proud of.

When people meet me, they notice...

I talk fast and a lot. I listen intently. I (unfortunately) judge just about everything and don't hide my conclusions at all well. I look younger than my age but more conservative than my actual politics would lead them to expect. I seem at first to fit tidily into some stereotype or other to all too many people but I then have an uncooperative habit of then doing things that clash utterly with most of them.

You'll often find me...

In my studio, working on our publishing projects or on the phone, or with somebody there for a project. Running around the city doing errands. In vintage shops and thrift stores. Sitting in a coffee shop with a notepad, scribbling away.

Two things I can't live without...

My friends. The conviction that what I'm doing in any given week is making some difference to that vast morass "out there".

The bravest thing I've done recently...

Making and sticking by some public statements that question, perhaps even undermine, the heated proclamations of a somewhat public figure of my acquaintance. As usual, I was oblivious to the power implications when I made my first comment. But when it become obvious that some folks of the sort who get interviewed for the paper and flown around the country as "experts" in this field were seriously pissed at me, I buckled down, made my case again in more detail, and have since reluctantly but determinedly worked to back up my words with actions.

I am particularly good at...

I have been a consultant, an editor, a cook, a party organizer, a personal assistant, a (gods help us all) "life coach", and any number of other things that all come down to Guy Who Turns Up In A Crisis, Sees Stuff, Asks Questions, and Makes It Better.
