an artist. Not trying to be smug here, I've just been doing art my whole life, and I've come to the conclusion that it's a compulsion...Whether it's visual--my preferred medium--music, writing, and now acting, I have to express myself. I long ago decided the tedious work of science wasn't for me, but nowadays I enjoy just about anything. Life is art. I intend to be a teacher unless I get caught up in an art industry. I'm almost positive I will get a masters degree in teaching regardless.
When people meet me, they notice...my eyes, although I usually wear my glasses. My brother, sister, and I all have my dad's intense light eyes. My friendly manner, unless I'm preoccupied with school. Finally, my curves. When I stopped letting my mom pick out my clothes, and started learning from my younger sister and friends, I began to get a lot more attention...but I think it's more due to the fact that most men aren't exactly enamored with stick-thin model types--no offense to them!
You'll often find me...doing papers for my writing-intensive university, agonizing about it, or procrastinating. I'll have to update this section, because finals are fast approaching, and I'm procrastinating as I type. Also, things will change after this semester--I'm almost done! Otherwise, fantasizing about travel, waitressing, learning Japanese, my minor (yes I'm quite upset about recent events), spending time with my family and friends, and general self-improvement.
Two things I can't live without...My family (friends included)--and I'm assuming I'm not supposed to take this too literally and include sustenance--which I suppose includes love too. Love is absolutely essential. After that, I'm sorry I can't be too specific, I'd say traveling, or Japan! My car is Japanese, my TV, and there are some anime films and series' that are simply wonderful. Tekkonkinkreet, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fooly Cooly, Tokyo Godfathers, Spirited Away. But I have no ethnic preference. In fact I often wish I was a different ethnicity. I can definitely live without the consumer culture here.
The bravest thing I've done recently...Asked for help? Create an online dating profile? Actually, I've just started really dating, asking guys out, etc. I used to hang out with boys, now I am going out with men. This is my first foray into online dating, and I figure I can meet someone on here just as easily as I can at a bar or a club, if not more so.
I am particularly good at...reading haha, unless it's assigned! art, as stated above. communicating, as communications and rhetoric studies is my major. waitressing, after two years. I need to broaden my skill set, obviously!
My favorite literary quotes are...
1. My somewhat unpleasant pastor cousin (by marriage) who I nonetheless enjoy talking to, once said to me that 'it is the people you meet in life and the books that you read that really shape you'. I agree with this, without any deeper analysis, because there really is nothing like a good book.
2. e. e. cummings:
worms are the words but joy's the voice
down shall go which and up come who
breasts will be breasts
and thighs will be thighs
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
-time is a tree (this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and I am for you
just so long and long enough
3. The The Letter of Jude in the Bible
4. MORAL
Maidens, from this tale of Beauty
Learn, and in your memory write—
Daily leads a Path of Duty
Through the Garden of Delight;
Where the loveliest roses wear
Daunting thorns, for you to dare.
ANOTHER
Many shy, unhappy creatures
From the covert watch your mirth:
“Foul are we,” they mourn; “our features
Blot the sun, deform the earth.”
Pity, love them, speak them fair:
Half their woe ye may repair.
--Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch (1910),
in his conclusion to Sleeping Beauty
