VillaStrayLight

47-year-old woman in Vancouver, BC, Canada
Seeking a man, 40 to 50
I would describe myself as...

curious, intelligent, amusing, passionate, eclectic, and maybe a little eccentric. I also have a strong Christian faith that informs all aspects of my life and how I look at the world. I am an introvert who loves to bring people together, a dreamer who loves to make things happen, a thinker who feels deeply, and a person who is always being described as "organized" even though she often can't find the floor in her bedroom. I am here on Alikewise hoping to meet interesting and literate men who will challenge me to read books of which I've never heard so that my brain and my worldview don't start to shrink.

When people meet me, they notice...

my firm handshake and my smile.

You'll often find me...

staring at a computer screen or off into space. I work as the Administrator for a small not-for-profit organization that provides AfterSchool Programs and Summer Day Camps for children in under-resourced neighbourhoods. When I'm not working (or reading, of course), I like to do crossword puzzles, play board games, ponder the mysteries of the universe and go exploring. I am also learning Spanish so that I can spend more time in Central America.

Two things I can't live without...

sunshine and hope.

I'm also very fond of chocolate chip cookies and, of course, coffee. Is there anyone on this site that doesn't like coffee? :)

The bravest thing I've done recently...

I am taking a six to seven month leave of absence from my job so that I can spend next winter in Honduras.

I am particularly good at...

not being busy
finding humor in almost everything, including myself!
lying on my couch reading books
scaring computers into behaving themselves
making three year olds and teenagers laugh

My favorite literary quotes are...

“The most painful state of being is remembering the future, particularly the one you'll never have.” ― Søren Kierkegaard

"In the depth of winter, I found within me an invincible summer." - Albert Camus

“How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back. There are some things that time can not mend. Some hurts that go too deep... that have taken hold.” - Frodo, The Return of the King

"Back of every creation, supporting it like an arch, is faith. Enthusiasm is nothing: it comes and goes. But if one believes, then miracles occur." - Henry Miller

"I need a drink and a peer group." - Ford Prefect

"Nietzsche was stupid and abnormal." - Tolstoy

"Plato was a bore." - Nietzsche

"And then, not expecting it, you become middle-aged and anonymous. No one notices you. You achieve a wonderful freedom." - Doris Lessing

"The two most common elements in the universe are Hydrogen and stupidity." - Harlan Ellison

"There are only three things to be done with a woman. You can love her, suffer for her, or turn her into literature." - Lawrence Durrell

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." - Marcel Proust
